You can call me Spidie.

The nick-name was given to me by my husband Michael and it stuck. It stands for WATER SPIDER. Not Spiderman.

My studio is at Squirrel Haus Arts in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Artists Statement September 2021

In March of 2020, when the pandemic had us all at home, I went into the studio. Our lives simplified but I was also left with overthinking, anxiety, and dread.

The paintings on this Website are from March 2020 to present. I worked to experiment in materials, form, color and content. Some paintings are seeds of ideas that didn’t go anywhere. They reflect my frame of mind, and my experiences in isolation but also some trips to the woods.

What this year and a half has shown me is that we are all connected and some of the imagery that has come up is universal: The path, the curve of line, the human face, the joy of bold color near subtle color, a trail that curves around a cluster of trees, and the horizon.

The horizon speaks to me like adventure calling from the distance. Because of a pandemic that place cannot be visited, only dreamt about.

Lake Superior and the outdoors plays a big part in my work. It is where I find hope and peace. Our ancient northern ocean is a very big horizon indeed.

To find my peace of mind I am exploring the world where I would rather be. Outside with a primal connection with all of you. Not culture, culture will always change. Not snarky politics or sophisticated irony - non of it lasts. I am looking for what is universal and deeply archetypal that connects us all.
